The local area is mainly served by the town of Zambrone, which has a variety of shops where all of your daily requirements can be met, whether it be fresh produce or cash from the ATM. Along the coast there are many towns and villages all with their own range and variety of shops, serving local delicacies such as the spicy salami known as nduja.

As you would expect there are many, bars, restaurants and gelaterias all offering tremendous value as your euro goes a lot further here than the rest of Italy.

10 minutes south is Tropea, the main town of the area is built on the top of a cliff and from many of the vantage points you can look out to Stromboli. There are several beaches and a port from where you can take a trip around the Aeolean islands. Take time and study the narrow cobbled lined streets, sit out on the pavement of one of the many bars and watch as the locals take their traditional evening walk through the town. You may be able to listen to one of the many outside concerts held in the squares.

Should you wish to combine a beach and sailing holiday then Sunsail start their operation in the port of Tropea from summer 2008.

Sunday Times put Tropea at number one spot in its ‘Top 20 Beaches’ report in January 2007. Tropea is only a short drive along the scenic coastline from Pizzo.
