This holiday apartment has everything you would expect plus a whole lot more. There are 2 large bathrooms, one with a bath/shower and the other with a shower. It also has 2 large bedrooms, one double room and the other with twin beds making it an ideal sized apartment for a family break away in Calabria.
The kitchen was well thought out maximising the space available, with all the modern conveniences plus a large amount of cooking and preparation space.
Pizzo is another beautiful town just a few minutes’ drive from the apartment, famous for its Chiesa di Piedigrotta, a church completely carved out of the tufo rock near the beach. This Calabrian town is also famous for its tartufo, a special delicious kind of ice cream celebrated with a festival in Pizzo every August.
A visit to a renowned ice cream parlour, Enrico's, situated in Marinella, is a must for all ice cream lovers.
Directly across from Enrico's is a lovely Irish pub, called the Fairywell, during peak times in the summer, there are live acts playing most nights, the atmosphere is great for a night out.
Calabria is one of Italy's best kept secrets, with its mild winter climate and soaring summer temperatures, dramatic scenery of sea and mountains and mouth watering cuisine, it has long since been a favourite holiday haunt of the northern Italians and Germans. The beaches frequently make the Top 10 lists, the temperature rarely dips below 18 degrees from March to November and the food is not only delicious but pretty healthy too.
There are 4 national parks in Calabria (Pollino, Sila, Serre and Aspromonte). Sila, which has its own ski resort and is probably the most accessible of all the parks, is well worth a visit with its beautiful lakes and hill top villages. In the winter months the snow capped mountains can be seen from the beaches below.
Renowned for its cuisine, Calabria is a food lover's paradise. Make the most of your stay by visiting the markets to stock up on local produce. Trucks selling fruit and veg, fresh fish and locally produced cheese and meats are a daily sight in most villages and together with the markets, is how most villagers buy their food. Restaurants, trattorias and pizzerias serving both modern and traditional dishes are plentiful, especially in the Summer months. Expect to pay considerably less than you would in the North.
Sunday Times put Tropea at number one spot in its ‘Top 20 Beaches’ report in January 2007. Tropea is only a short drive along the scenic coastline from Pizzo.
